As new technological paradigms arrive, new challenges arise. 5G is more complex than previous mobile generations with new requirements for new and different use cases using wireless networks in "connected cars," Industry 4.0, agriculture, medicine, etc. Sales of 5G devices will grow to $668 billion globally in 2026 – and increase from $5.5 billion this year according to Allied Market Research. 5G also will be a new opportunity to use Intellectual Property as a key tool for promoting innovation.

Join LES Britain & Ireland and their speaker, Steven Webb from Sumo Group, for a webinar on "Fun and Games – inside a video games developer" on 28 January 2021.
Steven is the General Counsel and Company Secretary of Sumo Group plc, one of the UK's largest providers of end-to-end creative development and co-development services to the video games industry. Video game sales are reported to be greater than the film and music industries combined, reached $159 billion in 2020 (up over 9% from 2019) and are forecast to be over $200 billion by 2023. Some of the largest companies in the world top the video game sales charts – Tencent, Sony, Apple, Microsoft, Google and Amazon – and Sumo counts them all as clients.
Sumo's evolving business model, in a dynamic industry based on creative works gives rise to a number of different intellectual property considerations that Steven will describe in this session.

on the Diversity of the Patent Bar"

LESI's Women In Licensing Alliance (WILA) will be joined by Mary T. Hannon (Marshall, Gerstein & Borun LLP) to discuss "Evaluating the Effect of the USPTO's Gatekeeping Criteria on the Diversity of the Patent Bar" and her recent study on the the US Patent Bar Gender Gap featured in the Indiana University Maurer School of Law's IP Theory.
Mary will share interesting statistical data about the underrepresentation of women in the US Patent Bar and exploring the reasons behind as well as the way forward.
